Cambodia

SDI works closely with the Asian Coalition of Housing Rights in Cambodia to provide direct and indirect support to Urban Poor Development Fund (UPDF). Although UPDF negotiates alternatives to the violent and impoverishing practice of eviction - especially through the promotion of on-site community upgrading - evictions in Cambodia have not stopped. The poorest and most vulnerable citizens continue to loose their homes and are forced to live in the government resettlement colonies on dot the extreme periphery of the cities. While UPDF continues to work against eviction, it also supports earlier evictees to rebuild their lives and settlements, even in these remote and inhospitable situations.
