SDI has built a relationship with the Zabaleen, a large group of entrepreneurs in the informal solid waste sector. At risk of losing their livelihoods due to the privatisation of the garbage industry, SDI has built relationships to support the struggle of the Zabaleen. This relationship has also catalyzed exchange programmes that have launched informal solid waste industries in many SDI affiliates around the world.
