The SDI presence in Haiti began with some engagement with two organizations: Habitat for Humanity in Port-au-Prince and SARCLEE in Les Cayes. These dialogues led to an exploratory exchange by a team from the Kenyan federation to Haiti in June 2012. During this visit it was discovered that SDI-inspired enumeration projects are already being conducted in some "squatter" communities of Haiti. The Kenya federation also encouraged communities to begin daily savings schemes to organize themselves and start prioritizing their communities.
